Social History is about how historical events affected society both then and now. We have spent quite a bit of time in recent years looking at the different decades of the 20th Century and this year we have been looking at the period between 1785 and 1837, so just before Queen Victoria. This is done through presentations on topics like poverty, protests, the move from the rural to the urban, crime and punishment.

The format is that members of the group with a particular interest in an aspect of social history volunteer to give a short talk on it, followed by a group discussion.

THERE IS NO PRESSURE FOR MEMBERS TO GIVE A PRESENTATION. PEOPLE ARE WELCOME TO COME ALONG AND JUST TAKE PART IN THE GROUP DISCUSSION 

In February we will probably be looking at the Victorian era.
